Abstract

This research aims to analyze the synergy and construct a foundation for the development of contextual Islamic Religious Education (PAI) through the integration of the Javanese philosophical value, Urip Iku Urup (life is to ignite/be beneficial), with the Qur'anic principle of Khairu Ummah (the best community) found in QS. Ali Imran : 110. The Urip Iku Urup philosophy emphasizes the moral responsibility to provide benefit, enlighten, and bring goodness to others. This value demonstrates a fundamental alignment with the essence of Khairu Ummah, which is defined by the actions of amar ma’ruf (enjoining good) and nahi munkar (forbidding wrong). Both principles converge in the spirit of rahmatan lil ‘alamin (mercy for all worlds) as a manifestation of universal compassion and peace. The method employed is a qualitative literature study utilizing a hermeneutical approach and content analysis to explore the coherent relationship between local wisdom and transcendental teachings. The findings indicate that this value integration establishes a pedagogic foundation for PAI that is both culturally rich and theologically sound. This synergy reflects the concept of igniting (urup) through amal saleh (righteous deeds) and social responsibility, which is implemented in the PAI curriculum to cultivate akhlak karimah (noble character), empathy, and environmental care through practical activities such as community service (bakti sosial) and mutual cooperation (gotong royong). Significantly, this approach successfully makes PAI content more relevant and effective, not only shaping students with strong faith but also reinforcing national identity. In conclusion, the study confirms that local tradition and Islamic values can mutually enrich each other, offering a contextual PAI model that is essential for preparing the younger generation to contribute positively to the global society with a strong foundation of faith and culture.
